Can You Make Money from a BLOG ?
PREPARATION
1. Before you start writing do your homework and find a niche that will be popular and one that you will enjoy spending time researching, preparing and writing on a very regular basis. The subject has to interest you as well as a large audience that will spend the time reading your material.
2. Consider the time that will be needed to put together interesting material on a daily or weekly basis. Don’t think you can just sit down and put together a daily journal type note. It takes material with substance that readers will feel provides them with something to gain from.
3. Spend the time to include quotes, links and resources that be a take away present for the reader. There are some publishers that I read on a regular basis and feel that every time I hit their BLOG I get something that I can personally use. I’m going to introduce you to my favorite BLOGGER later in this article.
4. Do your research! Dig and Google companies and organizations that would be interested in sponsoring your topic. Some are obvious, like a pet store if you BLOG about puppies, but others might not be so obvious. Think of an industry when you pick a topic. Travel, pets, self help, employment, to name just a few. Do a Google search on the topic you are writing about and see who is paying for clicks on the subject. Those “Sponsor Links” on every search can provide you with companies to target for sponsorship.
TRAFFIC IS KING
1. Before you even think of adding Google Adsense links or approaching a sponsor, make sure that your traffic is worth their dollars or the time you’ll spend marketing to them. For a ball park figure 500 to 1000 hits per day is a good starting point to begin to monetize your BLOG.
2. SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a way to get people to find your BLOG. If your niche is narrow and your content is full of keywords that relate to your topic you should see specific keywords entered in a Google search bring your BLOG to the first or second page. NOW YOU ARE READY TO EARN CASH.
3. Social networking is another great way to get people to know your BLOG exists. Here are a few to seriously consider using.
a. http://Twitter.com – a simple way to introduce each topic you right about.
b. http://FaceBook.com – allows you to build a network of friends and followers who will propagate the “Word of Mouth” advertizing that is often overlooked in today’s cyber world.
c. http://MySpace.com – is another friend and follower type networking tool.
HOW MUCH CAN YOU EXPECT TO MAKE?
You’ll see advertisements that say it’s easy to make $5,000 or $10,000 a week or a month. It may be possible but are you really as good as CNN or MSNBC? My friend, Robin Good, who makes his living BLOGGING tells me that a good BLOG can expect to make $10, $20, $50 a day or $500 to $1,000 a month. That seems much more reasonable. Beware that this type of income will probably take 3 or 4 hours of work a day. Beginners can expect to spend twice that amount of time to get established. Are you ready to invest that much time on a gamble that your BLOG will be popular?
